Prolotherapie In Het Kort:

Prolotherapie is een injectietherapie waarbij we met injectie van glucose de lichaamseigen genezingsreactie stimuleren om pijnlijke pezen en gewrichten te herstellen.
In plaats van alleen de pijn te stillen, behandelen we de oorzaak van uw klachten.

Prolotherapie: Prolotherapie is een minimaal-invasieve, veilige behandeling die de lichaamseigen genezingsreactie stimuleert. Ligamenten zijn de banden die de gewrichten bij elkaar houden en stabiliseren. Pezen verbinden de spieren aan het bot en bewegen de gewrichten. Als ligamenten en pezen beschadigd of opgerekt zijn, veroorzaakt dit pijn.

Acute of chronische pijn van het bewegingsapparaat kan het leven zuur maken voor iedereen die er last van heeft. Misschien wilt een oud letsel slecht genezen of is er geen duidelijk aanwijsbare oorzaak van de klachten. Misschien heeft u veel dingen al geprobeerd zoals rust, fysiotherapie of chiropractie.  Prolotherapie is een in Nederland weinig bekende maar erg effectieve behandeling van musculoskeletale pijnklachten.

De oorzaak van veruit de meeste pijnklachten op orthopedisch gebied zijn beschadigde of instabiele ligamenten, kraakbeen, pezen en spieraanhechtingen. Ongelukken, sportletsels of overbelasting hebben als gevolg dat ligamenten en pezen kunnen scheuren, oprekken en minder elastisch worden. Vergelijk het maar met een oude of overbelaste elastiek die minder belasting kan hebben en makkelijker kan knappen. Complete scheuren moeten chirurgisch gerepareerd worden maar de meeste klachten komen voort uit verzwakte, overrekte, overbelaste en instabiele ligamenten of pezen. 

Verzwakte ligamenten en pezen hebben geen goede invloed op een gewricht. Als de ligamenten en pezen een gewricht niet meer kunnen stabiliseren ontstaat er gewrichtsinstabiliteit. Dit kan als gevolg hebben: pijn, dysfunctie, artrose, kraakbeenschade en dus nog veel meer chronische problematiek.

In tegenstelling tot pijnstillers behandelt prolotherapie de oorzaak van veel pijnklachten omdat het de pijnlijke pezen en ligamenten helpt genezen. Ligamenten hebben een slechte natuurlijke genezingscapaciteit door een slechte bloedvoorziening. Als een ligament beschadigd of opgerekt raakt geneest het vaak maar gedeeltelijk. Als je dit vergelijkt met een spierletsel of wondje op de huid genezen deze letsels in de regel snel door hun goede bloedvoorziening.

Als er letsel is opgetreden van een pees, ligament, gewricht of spieraanhechting reageert het lichaam met een ontstekingsreactie. De ontstekingsreactie (inflammatie) is de natuurlijke manier van het lichaam om schade te repareren! Verwar dit niet met een bacteriële infectie, waarbij een bacterie de ontsteking veroorzaakt.
Na een acuut spier-, pees- of ligamentletsel is het dus geen goed idee om ontstekingsremmende medicatie (NSAID’s) zoals diclofenac, ibuprofen of naproxen te nemen. Hoewel dit wel pijnstilling kan geven, remmen deze medicijnen de natuurlijke genezingsreactie.

Door de behandeling stimuleren we het immuunsysteem van het lichaam om ter plekke van het chronisch letsel de genezingsreactie/ontstekingsreactie een kickstart te geven. De werking van prolotherapie is dat chronische, slecht genezende letsels door de behandeling weer als “acuut” worden.
Na de behandeling zal de bloedtoevoer verbeteren wat meer reparatiecellen en groeifactoren naar het gebied brengt. Dit proces kan in de dagen na behandeling zorgen voor wat napijn, stijfheid en beursheid.

Prolotherapie is een serie injecties met een geconcentreerde oplossing van glucose gemengd met een tijdelijk verdovingsmiddel. De hoge concentratie van de glucose zorgt voor een osmotische shockreactie op de plek waar geprikt wordt. We maken eigenlijk kleine gecontroleerde wondjes door het prikken zelf. De reactie op de glucose versterkt dit. Glucose is wereldwijd het oudste en meest gebruikte middel gezien de veiligheid en effectiviteit. Er zijn andere stoffen die gebruikt kunnen worden om de genezingsreactie uit te lokken of te stimuleren. Recent is er bijvoorbeeld veel onderzoek naar Ozongas en Platelet Rich Plasma geweest.

Ligamenten en pezen worden hersteld door aanmaak van nieuw gezond weefsel (collageen). Ligamenten en pezen prolifereren, worden dikker en sterker en kunnen weer beter hun taak vervullen. De stabiliteit en functie van rug, nek, bekken en gewrichten verbeteren, allerlei bijkomende problemen zoals overbelaste spieren en spierknopen kunnen ontspannen en de pijn vermindert drastisch.

Wat kunt u verwachten:

Ten eerste evalueren we ofdat u kandidaat bent voor behandeling. Veruit de meeste patiënten hebben goed resultaat zelfs met langdurige chronische aandoeningen. Zoals met elke medische behandeling variëren resultaten en spelen een aantal belangrijke factoren een rol zoals de algehele gezondheid en levenstijlfactoren van de patiënt.
Prolotherapie wordt toegepast op zeer uiteenlopende aandoeningen en elke aandoening heeft een gemiddeld aantal behandelingen nodig. Dit kan variëren van 1-3 behandelingen voor eenvoudige letsels tot meer dan 10 behandelingen voor uitgebreide en ernstige gevallen. Bijvoorbeeld bij de gemiddelde patiënt met rugklachten beginnen we met een serie van 6 wekelijkse behandelingen. Prolotherapie van de wervelkolom wordt altijd in combinatie gedaan met Chiropractie en Manuele Therapie voor de beste resultaten.
Prolotherapie is een veilige behandeling en kent nagenoeg geen bijwerkingen.
